Smithfield Trust Company was incorporated in Pennsylvania under the Banking Code of 1965 as a trust company for the purposes of acting as a fiduciary and as such, is regulated by the Pennsylvania Department of Banking.

Smithfield is held in its investment activities to a higher “fiduciary” standard, rather than a lower “suitability” standard. Resting on these fiduciary principles, we built our business model from the time of our founding in 1996 to minimize and eliminate conflicts of interest between us and our customers.

Our location in Pittsburgh and charter under Pennsylvania law does not limit us from a broad reach. We have customers across the United States and the globe that utilize our investment management and trust administration services. In addition to not having any restrictions for living abroad that is sometimes found in larger institutions, many of our customers have experienced tax savings by moving the situs of their trust to Smithfield for administration from states outside of Pennsylvania.
